FRACTAL GENERATORS 1:7
 |
Apophysis ~ v2.02 ~ Win+XP ~ 2.71 MB |
author: Mark Townsend
Home page: http://www.apophysis.org/
Apophysis is a program for designing flame and IFS fractals. While originally created as an utility to be used with Ultra Fractal (UF), it spun off, and became a stand-alone program in a class of its own. It's aslo one of the most popular fractal generators around. It can export images in several different formats or export parameters as UPR file to render in UF. The author recommends downloaders should sign the Mailing List to keep up-to-date with bug fixes and new releases. Source code available (as well as version 1.01 and the latest beta v. 2.04, from 15 June 2006). - jrs + jlm

Aros Fractals ~ v1.0 ~ Win9x/NT/Me & Mac ~ 170 kb |
author: Aros
Magic Research
Home page: http://www.arosmagic.com/Fractals/
This is a simple and quick fractal generator that can draw Mandelbrot Set, Julia Set, Newton Method and Plasma Cloud fractals (which are excellent for background images). Supports multi-threaded operations. Images can be of 8-bit, 16-bit or 24-bit color, and saved as bitmap files. Beautiful interface.

Atriatix ~ v0.010 ~ Win9x/Me/NT ~ 1.12 Mb |
author: Stephen
C. Ferguson
Home page: http://www.eclectasy.com/Iterations-et-Flarium24/
Atriatix will plot interesting fractals from the Gumowski/Mira particle simulation formula. The resulting image represents the particles' trajectories. Source code available.

Brazil ~ v0.4 beta ~ Win9x/Me/NT ~ 670 kb |
author: David
Chardonnet
Home page: http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Lab/1837/
Brazil can be used to design, draw and morph fractal objects. It comes with three design utilities (DESIGN, TRUE and MORPH), each for one of the previously mentioned tasks.

Chaoscope ~ v0.3.1 ~ Win98/2000/XP & OpenGL ~ 2.72 MB |
author: Nicolas Desprez
Home page: http://www.chaoscope.org
Chaoscope is a '3D Strange Attrator rendering' program, currently in beta stage. In addition to 9 attractor types, it also has 5 different render types, which combine to create some extremely interesting fractals. While only in beta, it has a fairly extensive online manual (which means that images can be created fairly quickly). This new release adds some extra equations and bug fixes. Requires OpenGL. jrs + jlm

ChaosPro ~ v3.3 ~ Win+XP ~ 5.80 Mb |
author: Martin Pfingstl
Home page: http://www.chaospro.de
Chaos Pro features multiple windows and multi threading (calculates multiple fractals at the same time). Can create 3D views and animations. Compatible with Fractint (including 80% of its formulas) and Ultra Fractal parameters, transformations, palettes and formula files. Also supports alpha channels. A most-have to those interested in Ultra Fractal, but with the extra benefit of being freeware. It will also run on any Win32-compatible operating system.

Cold_IFS ~ v0.002 ~ Win9x/Me/NT ~ 482 Kb |
author: Stephen C. Ferguson
Home page: http://www.eclectasy.com/Iterations-et-Flarium24/
Cold_IFS plots orbit trajectories using an IFS based formula. The images it produced are usually associated with flame fractals in other fractal generating programs. Pictures can be saved in several different formats, but parameters cannot be saved in any way. Ferguson stopped working with this application (this was the second and final preview), but incorporated most of its functions in Atriatix. The Draw button works as a random image generator.

Double Fractal ~ v2.8A ~ Win9x/Me ~ 290 Kb |
author: Joao Paulo Schwarz Schuler
Home page: http://www.schulers.com/jpss/pascal/lsm.htm
Double Fractal has grown up since its previous version. This is a greatly improved one, with more controls and and access to the main parameters and coloring palettes. Also new fractal formulas. Good for simple explorations; includes new documentation. Can save pictures to BMP files and export to POV-Ray.

Dynamical Systems ~ v1b ~ Win3.x/9x/Me ~ 110 Kb |
author: Dan Waggoner
Home page: http://archives.math.utk.edu/software/msdos/
A simple fractal generator that can plot Mandelbrot, Julia and Newton fractals. The size of the images will be that of your screen resolution. Will run even in an aged 386 with a math coprocessor. It saves pictures in DIB format.

Easy Fractals ~ v3.20 ~ MacOS 9/X ~ 1.63 Mb - SHAREWARE |
author: Berkhan-Software
Home page: http://www.berkhan.com
As the name implies, it is a very easy to use Mandelbrot and Julia fractals generator, with some nice options and intuitive controls that can produce interesting images in a matter of seconds. Images can be save as a proprietary file or in any of the most common image formats (limited to 800x600 pixels in the unregistered version). Benefits from multi-core or multiprocessor systems. The resulting images are so interesting that I thought it would be good to add this one even though it's shareware (US$25). Available in English and German. Important note: as of 18-Oct-2006 it only runs on PowerPC and G3-G4-G5 Macs. IT WON'T WORK ON INTEL-BASED MACS.

Emberj ~ v8.9 ~ JAVA ~ 145 Kb |
author: Stephen C. Ferguson
Home page: http://www.eclectasy.com/Iterations-et-Flarium24/
Emberj is a cross-platform fractal generator that can draw mainly Mandelbrot set and Lyapunov images. Compared to other Ferguson applications, this one is simple because it doesn't include the full-range options all of his other projects have, but it's as fast as any them, and works the same way. Although it doesn't save the parameters, images can be saved as PPM files. Will work in any system that has the Java Development Kit (JDK) installed. Open source.
