Flarium
Flarium24  ~  v8.9  ~  Win9x/Me  ~  411 Kb
author: Stephen C. Ferguson
Home page: http://www.eclectasy.com/Iterations-et-Flarium24/
Flarium24 draws fractal images using some 160 equations and 60 filters in three different methods: M-Set, N-Set, and F-Set. Can also draw strange attractors. Source code available.

FracHunt
FracHunt  ~  v1.15  ~  Win9x/Me/NT/Linux-WINE  ~  1.90 MB
author: Ron AF Greve
Home page: http://moonlit.xs4all.nl/fractal.php
FracHunt generator can draw Mandelbrot, Julia, Newton Rapson, and a few other fractals. Images can be saved as BMP or TGA files. Comes with a very useful Help file covering program operation and a whole section on complex numbers. Runs in Linux using WINE (download the tar file from homepage). Careware.

Fractorama
Fract-o-Rama  ~  v1.6.7  ~  Windows & UNIX  ~  2.41 Mb
author: John & Kristin Dumas
Home page: http://fractorama.com/
Fract-o-Rama is a tool for power fractalers or for those who have some mathematical background about fractals because this is a tool to generate any kind of fractal figure users can imagine: you have to write down the formula directly before going any further. In that sense, it's very flexible. Source code and documentation available. (Quoted size above is Zip file without source code).

Fractal Domains
Fractal Domains  ~  v2.0.1  ~ MacOS X  ~  5.26 Mb - SHAREWARE
author: Denis C. De Mars
Home page: http://fractaldomains.com
As far as I know, Fractal Domains is the most versatile generator available for both PPC and Intel Macs. When you run it for the first time it looks as if it were difficult to use, but it only requires a couple of minutes to realize it isn't so; actually, it's quite easy. By the time you finish your first couple of pictures, you will know all its basics. FD can render Mandelbrot, Julia, Newton and Halley type fractals, and you could even try your own functions (under PARAMETERS). Although there are almost no restrictions of use, most images won't be saved until you pay the fee (US$20, a great price). It seems the Classic version is no longer available, while OX 10.2 users should get beta version 2.0b5 until a nasty bug get fixed.

Fractal Explorer
Fractal Explorer  ~  v2.01  ~  Win+XP ~  1.30 Mb
author: Arthur Sirotinsky and Olga Fedorenko
Home page: http://www.eclectasy.com/Fractal-Explorer/
Fractal Explorer is an excellent generator that can render 2D and 3D images and animations of various fractal types, including Mandelbrot, Julia, Newton, IFS, landscapes, 3D strange attractors, and quaternions. Three-dimensional renderings use OpenGL technology (required files are available from the same web page). Sterling-ware and POV-Ray support, batch rendering, AVI animations, and more.

Fractal Forge
Fractal Forge  ~  v2.8.2  ~  Win+XP ~  776 Kb
author: Uberto Barbini
Home page: http://uberto.fractovia.org
Formerly known as True Mandel, Fractal Forge is an excellent Mandelbrot and Julia set exploration tool that stand out for its fast calculations, even of deep zooming shots. This version improves the amination tool.

Fractal Orbits
Fractal Magic  ~  v1.01 beta  ~  Win9x/Me  ~  35 Kb
author: James Crisp
Home page: http://www.crispdesign.net/fm/
Fractal Magic will draw Mandelbrot and Julia set fractals. It cannot save images (instead, it will save parameter files), but can print directly or copy the pictures to the clipboard for pasting into other applications. Considerably fast, but simple.

Fractal Orbits
Fractal Orbits  ~  v2.01 beta  ~  Win9x/Me  ~  1.27 Mb
author: Phil Pickard
Home page: http://spanky.triumf.ca/www/other_progs.html
Fractal Orbits can draw Mandelbrot and Julia sets fractals in normal, spherical and inverse modes limited to 256 colors. Images are saved in BMP or GIF formats; the last one will store the parameter values as FractInt does. This application is intended to be run on Windows 95 but does not support long file names. It no longer has a home page, but can be downloaded from the Spanky Fractal Database archive. Public Domian.

Fractal Therapeutic Project
Fractal Therapeutic Project ~  v0.4  ~  Win9x/Me  ~  487 Kb
author: Stephen C. Ferguson, Joseph Trotsky, and Petrus van Pelt
Home page: http://www.wack.ch/fame/sw/sw_21.html
FTP has tried to hide all the scary things about fractal creation behind a very user-friendly interface. Because it's also intended to be used as a therapeutic tool, it only comes with a minimal set of formulas and filters. Yet, beneath it lies the same power as all other Ferguson's software: with brilliant color algorithms and tools. Beyond its medical finality, it's the best fractal generator around for beginners and children. Extremely easy to use. It has surpassed its initial goals.

Fractal Trees X
Fractal Trees X  ~  v1.5.1  ~ MacOS X  ~  90.2 Kb
author: Simon Woodside
Home page: http://simonwoodside.com
This is a very simple program to draw fractal tree silhouettes. You can change the colors (including the background) as well as some parameters (by way of sliders). Images can be saved as TIFF files.

Fractals!
Fractals!  ~  v3.7  ~  Win9x  ~  427 Kb
author: Wurm-Software
Home page: http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~ubpj/fraktal.html [offline]
Fractals! is a German fractal generator that can plot several types of fractals. It comes with some very interesting options to control the results, including the ability to render 3D scenes. Although the program instructions and commands are in German, fractal connoisseurs can work with it quite easily. Not recommended for novices, though.

Outdated programs formerly listed in this page:
  • Fract32 (Norman Tackett)
  • Fractal Builder (Symone Avogadro)

  • Fractals (Aleksey Kravchenko & Dmitriy Mekhontsev). This one is still available, but it doesn't run on my computer, so I'm assuming that since it's an old program, it has some compatibility issues with newer hardware or software. I haven't checked, and won't check, out what's wrong. That's why I have taken it out of the list of recommended fractal generators. Yet, if you still want to try it (as well, as some other old stuff) at your own risk, you can go to Fractal Universe web site and get it from there.

  • Fractor (Marco Mirschel)
  • Fractrue (Bernd Hemmerling)
