FRACTAL GENERATORS 7:7

Tiera Zon 2 ~ v0.6 ~ Win9x/Me ~ 508 Kb |
author: Stephen C. Ferguson
Home page: http://www.eclectasy.com/Iterations-et-Flarium24/
Tiera Zon 2 works similar to Tiera-Zon, but its formulas and filters are accessible from a secondary window instead of the menu bar. Additional formulas and parameters available. Known to be slow. Source code available.

Truemand ~ v3.5 ~ Win3.1/Win9x/NT/Me/2000 ~ 413 Kb |
author: Ron Barnett
Home page: http://www.hiddendimension.com/futils.html [no longer available?]
Truemand is an excellent Windows attempt at reproducing Fractint's functionality, but with true color results. Can work with 256 colors displays. Excellent documentation. Very slow.

TS Fractal Explorer ~ v3.01 beta ~ Win9x/NT/Me/XP ~ 155 Kb |
author: Sergei Dolgov
Home page: http://home.onego.ru/~sdolgov/dir.htm
This is a fractal generating program that uses the TS Graphics Library v1.0 beta (as if that were important) to plot its images. It's pretty simple and slow. Images, which doesn't look that good, can be saved as BMP files. May have some secrets deep inside. No documentation.

Ultimate Fractals ~ v1.3 ~ Win9x/Me/NT ~ 348 Kb |
author: Terence Sattar
Home page: direct download
This is a nice, simple and small (though powerful) fractal generator that can do some very nice works. It's pretty fast, compared to other generators. The only drawback is that you can't work freely with color palettes, yet it can do more than some others in this respect. Images can be saved as parameter files (to reuse later) or BMP files. Although its author stopped working on this project several years ago, the software is still available from fractovia.org (with the authors permission). Read the DSICLAIMER (second icon) before downloading.

Ultra Fractal ~ v4.04 ~ Windows ~ 5.25 Mb SHAREWARE |
author: F. Slijkerman
Home page: English | Español
Ultra Fractal is a very powerful SHAREWARE fractal generator which holds a large, loyal and growing following. This new version now comes in two different editions: Standard, which is the regular update from previous releases, and an Animation edition, which adds animations to this well known application. Standard edition is still at US$59 for new users (US$39 for an upgrade), while the Animation goes for a price tag of US$129 (US$69 if you own a licensed copy of UF2 or 3, or US$79 from Standard UF4).

Vchira ~ v0.5 ~ Win9x/Me/NT ~ 1.14 Mb |
author: Stephen
C. Ferguson
Home page: http://www.eclectasy.com/Iterations-et-Flarium24/
Another great fractal generator from Stephen Ferguson's genius, Vchira was (and possibly still is) the first freeware fractal generator (as far as I know) to introduce layers and alpha channels. And it is as good as all of the other software in Ferguson's outstanding collection. Source code available. Vchira versions 0.5 and 0.4 are freely available from Ferguson's home page.

Windows Chaos Image Generator ~ v2.00 ~ Win9x/NT/2000 ~ 242 Kb |
author: Thomas
Hövel
Home page: http://www.hoevel.de/e_main.htm
WinCIG is another very simple Mandelbrot set generator that is very easy to use. Most of its processes are automated, so users only have to use the mouse to draw a little rectangle covering the region they want to zoom in. Automatically, a small window with some extra parameters will pop-up, allowing the modification of any value. Also comes with a palette editor. Images can be saved in BMP format.

Winfract ~ v18.2 ~ Win9x/Me/NT/XP ~ 539 Kb |
author: The Stone Soup Group
Home page: http://spanky.triumf.ca/www/fractint/getting.html
Windows version of Fractint. It neither get all of Fractint's attention, nor is so up-to-date. Anyway, it is a good choice for those wanting to use Fractint, but doesn't like DOS. A new Windows port is called Manpwin.

WinMand is another simple program designed to explore the Mandelbrot set, and nothing more. It's very simple, using only the left and right mouse buttons to select an area and zoom in as you wish. Available through Soler's web site.

Xaos ~ v3.2.3 ~ Platform Independent ~ 1.33 Mb |
author: Thomas Marsh and Jan Hubicka
Home page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/xaos/
XaoS is a real-time fractal zoomer that can calculate Mandelbrot and other fractals significantly fast. Supports palette changing and the images can be saved to PNG format. New version is only available as a platform independent package. Users would have to compile the file in order to make it work. Just follow the instructions and get all the necesary files before trying to run it. Open source.
Last revision: 18 November 2006.
