Luminary Media expands podcast service footprint in New Zealand

Luminary Media, an Internet-based audio subscription service provider, has recently announced the expansion of its footprint in New Zealand. This expansion marks the company’s first-ever podcast service offering to users in the region, with an initiative to bolster its digital exclusive content.

Luminary’s current podcast listeners are offered a 7-day free trial of the Premium service, after which $7.99/month or $58.99/year of subscription fees must be paid to get access to over 40 original podcasts.

According to Simon Sutton (former HBO’s Chief Revenue Officer & President), the CEO of Luminary, the company is thrilled to increase its service offerings to new untouched areas where listeners are seeking quality podcast content. The recent accomplishment will cater to those listeners in New Zealand through the premium subscription network of original content offered by Luminary’s talented creators, namely Russell Brand, Trevor Noah, and Celeste Barber.

Matt Sacks, Executive Chairman and Founder of Luminary, stated that the expansion will also profitably deliver podcast service from Celeste Barber to listeners where there is high demand for Celeste & Her Best.

The global expansion in New Zealand is Luminary’s plan to increase its international presence, which also includes Ireland and South Africa in the list. The expansion plan to three untouched regions will double the company’s footprint in international settings, in addition to U.S., Australia, and Canada that are currently deploying its service.

As per Reuters’ estimates, these three regions have reportedly proven the company’s track record of success with high podcast listenership. These areas produced a monthly record of 4 Mn listeners, where 90 million podcast listeners were reported from the dynamic U.S. market in the previous month.

The company’s podcast content service received positive feedbacks from both listeners and critics since its launch in April 2019. It has been honored with various awards. For instance, AdWeek presented 2019 Podcast of the Year Awards to Luminary as well as included in the list of “best podcast episodes” and “best podcasts” by The New Yorker, Marie Claire, and Esquire, among others.
