Amazon Europe donates $2.5M to support India’s fight against COVID-19

Amazon Europe has recently announced its commitment of $2.5 million to support India as the country is currently grappling with the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases.

The fund will be used in purchasing and transporting medical supplies, including oxygen concentrations from Italy, nebulizers and inhalation devices from Germany, and ventilators from the UK. These products will be offered to Amazon frontline workers as well as local charities to assist the infected people across the nation, thereby supporting the capacity of medical facilities, hospitals, and public institutions.

The latest initiative of Amazon happened in line with the announcement to deliver 100 ventilators of $3.8 million in the country. The e-Commerce company has also revealed that it has been working closely with the Indian Red Cross and other groups, under the guidance of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Niti Aayog.

Other technology firms have stepped up to help India fight the surging coronavirus-infected cases. For instance, Samsung has recently announced a commitment of $5 million to support India’s fight against the outbreak. The electronic device manufacturer has also unveiled plans to donate $3 million to the Center, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, it was planning to offer medical supplies worth $2 million, including 1 million LDS syringes, 3,000 oxygen cylinders, and 100 oxygen concentrators, in the region.

Furthermore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung, HARMAN International, has recently announced its contribution of ?10 crore ($1.3 million) to the PM Cares Fund as a part of the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) in the nation. Several other related initiatives include the funding of ?135 crore ($18.3 million) by the technology giant, Google, to deliver medical supplies and aid the communities in general. Apart from these companies, smartphone makers Oppo and Vivo also have lent support for the Covid-19 relief efforts.
