Indonesia-based EdTech startup Gredu has reportedly raised USD 4 million in Series A round led by venture capital firm Intudo Ventures, with participation from returning investor Vertex Ventures. It will use the funds to expand its presence in the Greater Jakarta Region and across Indonesia’s major cities, and to develop new products as well as hire more employees.

The firm came into existence in September 2016, intending to provide apps that enable everyone involved in the educational process, from teachers, school administrators, guardians, parents, to students, to interact with one another and keep track of everything. It is now used by over 400 schools, with a total of 400,000 users.

While some teaching staff uses Google Classroom, Gredu was designed to work in conjunction with Indonesia's K-12 National Curriculum and Islamic Curriculum curricula, which are used in both public and private schools. The company is also working on new verticals, such as software for preschools and university programs.

Gredu's subscription software is built on a management system that allows administrators and teachers to stay on top of all their responsibilities, such as teaching schedules, syllabuses, and communication with students and their parents.

Confirming the company’s competence, Rizky Aniez, CEO and Co-Founder of Gredu, expressed that multiple groups created to stay in touch on platforms like WhatsApp, often become messy and ineffective, leading to confusion or lost threads. Gredu is an ideal solution and has a simple onboarding process that can be done within hours, he added.

Commenting on the investment, Patrick Yip, Founding Partner at Intudo Ventures, stated that they are proud to assist Gredu at this crucial juncture as they help more schools in digitizing operations and positively impacting the students throughout Indonesia.

Gredu is one of the Indonesian Edtech firms that have recently received funding, including ErudiFi for education financing, tutoring and homework help app CoLearn, and tuition platform InfraDigital.
