Brigad, the French freelance marketplace company, has reportedly secured $30 million in a funding round and over $5 million in debt.
The business runs a marketplace where caterers, restaurants, nursing homes, private clinics, and hospitals can hire independent contractors for short-term jobs.
Apparently, Balderton Capital is heading the round, with participation from Wendel Group, Serena Capital, and Serena Capital.
The firm originally targeted the French hospitality sector so that restaurants could add more chefs, waiters, or bartenders to fill in schedule gaps. It grew to include a second industry with care providers a few years ago.
Brigad distinguishes itself from high-skill freelancing markets for business consultants as well as developers including Malt and Comet with this brief definition. Also, it does not compete with newly founded temporary staffing agencies such as Jobandtalent and Side.
Despite being a relatively new addition, the healthcare sector accounts for 25% of missions on Brigad.
More than 10,000 businesses have used Brigad previously. They typically offer one mission each week. Brigad automatically sends this offer to about 20 people whenever they post a job position.
Only persons who reside in the neighborhood and have the relevant skills will be notified. Additionally, the job should pay more than the amount sought by freelancers.
Florent Malbranche, co-founder and CEO of Brigad, stated that the next step is matching the company with the first applicant. Over 100 jobs are provided to individuals each month. The company gets a 20% commission on each deal. In 2022, the startup has overseen 200,000 tasks.
The business hopes to expand its marketplace by bringing on more businesses and freelancers with the help of the most recent fundraising round. It plans to increase its focus on its two sectors in its two key markets, France and the U.K.
In a year or two, if all goes according to plan, Brigad may be seeking further capital in order to grow into new areas. Apparently, it is now time to hire 100 employees immediately in order to scale the marketplace.
