Bisu Inc., a Japan-based healthcare startup, has raised USD 3.2 million in a seed round funding. It intends to use the fresh funds to launch Bisu Body Coach, a portable home health lab capable of providing personalized nutrition and lifestyle recommendations through saliva and urine testing.

The funding round was led by QUAD and also witnessed the participation from ASICS Ventures Corporation, Pacifico Investments, SOSV, and 15th Rock Ventures.

Sources reveal that leading athletic shoemaker ASICS is likely to collaborate with Bisu to expand its health and fitness services.

For the unversed, the Bisu Body Coach is equipped with a microfluidic ‘’lab on a chip” technology and a reader connected with a smartphone application that enables users to measure a range of biomarkers in just two minutes using disposable test sticks,

This technology uses real-time end-to-end measurement and spectrometry to reduce measurement timing issues. It is also capable of manipulating blood, saliva, or urine sample inside a tiny channel to carry out the biological or chemical process.

The company, on differentiating its product, mentioned that it is emphasizing the testing of multiple biomarkers which can help users to keep a track of their health and accordingly make positive lifestyle and dietary changes without having to consult a physician.

Daniel Maggs, CEO, and Co-founder of Bisu was quoted saying that the application is in the beta testing phase in the U.S. and European Union and can be expected to be out in 2022. He further added that it is likely to enter Asian markets like Korea and Japan by 2023.

Bisu also hopes to develop a pet health test kid for dogs and cats soon.

The conventional at-home diagnostics market, driven by the patients' segment, allegedly stands at a value of around USD 5 billion. While the non-patent segment of the market Is currently projected to be worth around USD 10 billion, implying a huge growth potential for companies like Bisu.
