Hyundai Motor halts production subject to tough market conditions

  • The carmaker has declared no production days for some departments due to slowdown in the automobile sector.
  • Engine Shop-1 and Engine Shop-2 are expected to face the no production days for ten and nice shifts respectively.

The nation's second largest car-maker Hyundai Motors, India has reportedly announced no production days for the month of August for few of its manufacturing departments in Irungattukottai accounting to the critical conditions of the automobile sector.

Apparently, the company drafted a notification for the workers stating that due to the slowdown in automobile market conditions, there will be no production days in its Engine Shop-1 between August 9-21-ten shifts, and on August 10, 24, and 31 at Engine Shop-2 for nine shifts. Also, there was no manufacturing on 10 and 12 August at the body department, paint department, assembly shop, working in all the three shifts and transmission-2 for six shifts.

As per source with the knowledge on the matter, there are about three engine plants where the company plans to initiate another shift in the third.

It has been claimed that the specific segments of the Auto maker are performing indeed well like the Hyundai Venue, EV Kona, and Hyundai Creta. The company is said to be working on several strategies and tactics to increase the diminishing auto sector in the nation.

Meanwhile, a source close to the carmaker stated that the company’s flexible manufacturing process is comprehensively aligned to the market pull and is able to serve the changing business sector requirements. The changes of the market have been fused in the company’s business and operational arrangement, streamlining the plans. Additionally, the production downtime has been kept in line according to the operational plans.

Speculation has it that Hyundai Motors apparently is not the only company to announce the no production days. According to credible sources, various other vehicle and part manufacturers have restricted on manufacturing by shutting down the units to align production to the demand.
