South Korean-based automaker Hyundai Motor Company has reportedly sold the most electric vehicles in Indonesia with 196 EVs including 195 units of the IONIQ 5 and one unit of the IONIQ Electric.

It is worth mentioning that out of 200 EVs sold in Indonesia, 98% were from Hyundai. Besides, the company sold 363 EVs between January-May this year, accounting for 92% of the country's total sales of 363 EVs.

Meanwhile, from January-May 2022, total car sales in Indonesia including combustion engine vehicles comprised 396,153 units, out of which 93% were accounted for by Japanese automakers.

Other EV models sold in Indonesia include Toyota Motor Corporation's C+pod and Nissan Motor Corporation's Leaf & Lexus' UX300e.

However, at the beginning of 2022, Hyundai targeted to increase its stake in the Indonesian automotive market from 0.3%, and surprisingly, the company’s market share increased by 2.4% owing to locally produced models of Creta EV and SUV.

For those unknown, Hyundai funded USD 1.55 billion to construct a 150,000-unit-per-year plant in Indonesia, and the production of the Creta SUV and the all-electric IONIQ 5 commenced at the beginning of 2022, respectively.

The South Korean automotive giant on a positive note aims to introduce the versatile Stargazer multipurpose four-wheeler in Indonesia during the third quarter to increase its local sales.

In similar developments, the South Korean Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have reportedly launched two new all-electric cars, the Ioniq 5 of Hyundai and its twin, the Kia EV6, which swiftly tore the sales charts, surpassing the Chevrolet Bolt, Nissan Leaf, and every other non-Tesla electric vehicle on the market.

The South Korean behemoth and Kia together sold 21,467 units of these two vehicles in the U.S. this year, outpacing even the hotly anticipated Ford Mustang Mach-E, which was purchased by 15,718 owners.
