IKEA U.S. joins Electrify America for fast charging at 25+ IKEA stores

IKEA U.S. has reportedly announced that it will collaborate with Electrify Commercial and Electrify America to add ultra-fast charging stations and delivery fleet EV charging to more than 25 IKEA retail locations in the U.S.

This collaboration will help IKEA to be a climate-positive business by 2030. It will also help IKEA U.S. to increase its EV chargers by four times, which will support its goal of home deliveries with zero emission by 2025 and halve relative emissions from co-worker and customer travel by 2030.

Javier Quiñones, Chief Sustainability Officer and CEO, IKEA U.S., has stated that the firm believes in working together with its partners to create greener solutions for the future and tackle climate change. This collaboration with Electrify America will help IKEA not only in becoming climate and circular positive but also in bringing ultra-fast public chargers to its stores. Quiñones further stressed that IKEA would continue to innovate new ways to make everyday lives sustainable.

According to sources, there will be over 200 ultra-fast chargers at IKEA’s retail locations in eighteen states such as California, Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Virginia, Texas, Ohio, New York, Michigan, Maryland, Illinois, Connecticut, and Arizona. These stations will be offering the fastest charging speeds available, 150kW – 350kW. The first of these locations is expected to open late in 2022 and be completed by the latter half of 2023.

IKEA has chosen Electrify Commercial for its EV delivery fleet, to provide over 225 chargers across the sites. This will be the first time Electrify Commercial and Electrify America will install both fleet and public chargers simultaneously for a project.

Since the opening of its first charging station in May 2018, Electrify America has set a quick pace for its network expansion and has opened an average of about four stations each week. As of now, Electrify America has over 3,500 individual chargers and 800 stations and has plans under which it will expand up to 1,800 charging stations comprising 10,000 individual chargers in Canada and the United States by 2026.
