Nestlé S.A. has revealed it will soon open a new USD 73 million worth alternative meat production plant in Serbia, with the first phase of construction already been completed. The Swiss multinational food company is developing this site for its Garden Gourmet brand.

This new site will span across 18,440 square meters and is located near Sur?in. The overall completion of the project is expected to end by 2022. The site will primarily produce Garden Gourmet lines which will be exported majorly to Europe and will be able to produce 12,000 tonnes of products each year.

The General Manager of South Adriatic Nestlé Marjana Davidovi? stated in a statement that the company is building a modern factory according to the green standards that would hire at least 330 new employees. Currently, there are 550 employees in the existing headquarters and factory. The significant rise in personnel and investments will help boost the sales as replicated last year, Davidovi? claimed.

Nestlé generated revenues worth USD 860 million through its plant-based sales in 2021. A fortnight ago, the company revealed that they have partnered with Corbion to explore the potential of microalgae as a new addition to meat-free foods. Thus, the new production facility can prove advantageous to capitalize on this trend with similar strategic partnerships.

As reported, the manufactured Garden Gourmet products will be exported to France, Spain, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands. With the current retail and foodservice distribution, Serbia will also benefit from domestic production.

It appears that Nestlé is determined to show double-digit organic sales growth in meat-free food viable market. As per the recent reports, Nestlé is also committed to exploring regenerative farming and its supply chain alternatives by emphasizing the monetary value for the raw materials.
