T-Mobile U.S. Inc., a US based wireless network operator whose major shares are owned by Germany’s Deutsche Telekom, was sued by New York City for supposedly breaking consumer protection laws in the city.

According to the NYC, T-Mobile supposedly overcharged its consumers, sometimes subscribing them to expensive commercial plans without their consent, the company also sold used phones as if they actually were completely brand new.

New York City's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is stated to have recorded over 2,200 violations done by T-Mobile across the 56 Metro stores located in all five boroughs in the city.

The violations include cases in which the seller supposedly added additional costs of over hundreds of dollars to the advertised charge of a device while getting consumers to e-sign agreements without informing them of the extra charges. In at least 21 separate instances it was found that the Metro locations sold phones that were used previously as completely brand new devices.

A spokesperson of T-Mobile stated that whatever is being alleged is entirely at odds with the team’s integrity and the company’s aim of taking care of consumers each day. The spokesperson also claimed that the company is taking these allegations very seriously.

This is not the first instance of T-Mobile finding itself in such situations. Previously, United States Federal Communications Commission fined T-Mobile for failing to eliminate call failure issue plaguing rural subscribers.

Also, in 2013 the company was dinged by National Advertising Division for allegedly engaging into advertising practices that made false claims.
