PDLT looking to build a new Hyperscale data center in the Philippines

PLDT Inc. is reportedly planning to develop an additional 100MW of data center capacity through its industry-leading ICT arm ePLDT, starting with a new hyperscale and a purpose-built facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, the Philippines.

VITRO Sta. Rosa, ePLDT VITRO's 11th data center, will be built on a five-hectare PLDT property in the expanding industrial city of Sta. Rosa, making it the Philippines’ largest DC campus by far.

It will be built with the highest level of diversity and reliability, with triple-route PLDT domestic fiber and a telco fiber connectivity from some other providers; and will serve as the most ideal location Points-of-Presence and for Availability Zones for Hyperscalers', as well as for Enterprises' critical systems.

This hyperscale facility is designed to be Tier-3 Certified and Tier-4 Ready, ensuring clients the highest level of uptime reliability.

It involves the construction of an on-site Meralco power substation that is coupled to multiple other substations, significantly reducing the danger of power outages. Over the medium future, this will be the first of a series of hyperscale data centers with a total power need of 100MW.

VITRO Sta. Rosa, which was built to LEED standards, will employ world-class sustainability practices in design, supply, and building operations, including rainwater collection, wastewater reuse, renewable energy use, and the Philippines' lowest realistic power usage effectiveness (PUE), among others.

According to Jojo Gendrano, FVP and Head of Enterprise and International at PLDT and Smart, the company understands the needs of global hyperscalers.

The firm has also elevated the infrastructure design, operating practices, and business models in their existing data centers to meet their needs, and VITRO Sta. Rosa's design and operations will be well-suited to hyper-scale standards.

It is worth mentioning here that VITRO Data Centres, a division of ePLDT, is the country's first and leading data center operator, with ten locations across the country and a wealth of experience and industry-recognized certifications.
