Multinational health technology company Koninklijke Philips N.V. and Swedish medical device company Elekta have reportedly signed agreements to strengthen their existing partnership to enhance personalized and comprehensive cancer care using precision oncology solutions.
The extension of the joint venture deal has been undertaken given the two companies' successful collaboration in the field of magnetic resonance (MR)-guided adaptive radiation therapy. Elekta and Philips are now looking to utilize the benefits of synergy through deeper cross-portfolio engagements, according to sources.
To elaborate further, the extended partnership intends to provide ease and accuracy in diagnosis & personalized treatment for clinicians, precision therapy, and shorter treatment durations for patients, as well as low costs of care for healthcare providers.
President and Chief Executive Officer at Elekta, Gustaf Salford, was quoted saying that the deepened strategic collaboration will unlock opportunities to provide better results for patients suffering from cancer.
He further added that the agreement will combine image-guided RT solutions with advanced informatics to deliver better precision in oncology, enabling easier selection of treatment options for clinicians, and more effective and efficient therapy delivery.
Chief Business Leader of Precision Diagnosis at Philips, Kees Wesdorp, stated that the collaboration aims to capitalize on prospects created by the availability of precise diagnosis, as well as the fast-expanding range of therapies in oncology. To achieve these goals, it is vital to provide integrated systems and solutions that give the right insights at the right time during each patient's journey, he added.
