Robert Bosch to mass produce stationary fuel cell starting 2024

German multinational engineering and technology company, Robert Bosch GmbH, has recently announced to start a full-scale production of distributed power stations based on SOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) technology in the year 2024.

If sources are to be believed, Bosch is planning on manufacturing the power stations at its production facilities in Homburg, Wernau, and Bamberg, as well as other development sites in Renningen and Stuttgart-Feuerbach.

Sources with knowledge of the matter claimed that the German engineering giant intends to achieve an annual production capacity of 200mw. In this context, experts believe that this capacity is enough to provide adequate electricity supply to more than 400,000 homes across the country.

Christian Fischer, a member of Bosch’s board of management, stated that the company has realized the significance of highly efficient solid oxide fuel cell in supplying sustainable energy. By converging management of operations such as service, manufacturing, sales, and development into a single source, Robert Bosch intends to expand its reach in a new business field, he added.

CEO of Ceres Power, Phil Caldwell commented that the partnership will help in overcoming global challenges germane to energy transition by leveraging the company’s innovative technologies with Bosch’s manufacturing expertise.

It is to be noted that, earlier this year, Bosch acquired an 18% stake in Ceres Power Holdings plc, a UK-based leading developer of next generation fuel cell technology. The two companies, in a collaborated effort, will be initiating the pre-commercialization process for the stationary fuel cells, as cited by reliable sources.
