Royal Dutch Shell’s India unit opens first lubricant lab in India

Royal Dutch Shell’s India unit has recently announced that the company has opened its first lubricant laboratory in Bengaluru, its technological center. The company plans to expand its Research and Development (R&D) efforts for the country, as well as internationally, reports source.

Shell India said in statement that the laboratory will be a solution provider to the increasing demand for advanced lubricants with the rapid upgrade of technology in the automotive & industrial sectors. Empowered by data analysis and technologies, the laboratory is expected to aid India’s original equipment manufacturers and customers across the automotive & industrial sectors.

For the record, Shell has laboratory facilities in Hamburg, Houston, Shanghai and a partner laboratory in Tokyo. It has a global network of 50 adept product application specialist around the world.

As per credible sources, housing 15 technical experts in India, who are expected to work with Indian & global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), the new laboratory will be supported by leading technologies to co-develop & co-engineer products that will help OEMS in improving reliability and efficiency of their equipment. The new laboratory is expected to be helpful in supplementing business development & maintenance activities of Indian customers with laboratory and product application support from Shell India’s commercial and technical teams.

Country Head of Shell Lubricants India, Mansi Tripathy was reportedly quoted saying that global original equipment manufacturers partnerships are the main pillars of Shell’s technology leadership. The company is significantly investing in R&D of lubricants to pioneer solutions to support the growing needs of customers & OEMs.

The lubricant laboratory is also crucial step towards serving customers better, accurately matching their needs. In addition to serving original equipment manufacturers, the laboratory will allow the company to develop performance data of Shell products related to Indian customers. The company is ready to be a pioneer as Research and Development specialists in serving customers across the world, Tripathy added.

India is the 3rd largest market of lubricants in the world. The addition of Shell Lubricants Research & Development laboratory in the country is anticipated to further expand global reach for the company.
