Tech giant Apple files legal suit against meal app's pear logo
  • Apple is trying to deny Prepears application for trademark registration.
  • Apple has also targeted other companies having similar logos. It sent the patent office in Norway an objection letter in 2019, stating that the Fremskrittspartiet political party had a logo similar to its own.

For any company, a logo is more than an image its an identity. It is also said that customers form their opinion in a matter of seconds about a product by perceiving a specific logo. A well-designed logo is an easy way of transmitting professional, reliable, and quality products and services to potential customers.

To that end, Apple Inc. has filed a notice of opposition to a meal preparation firm Prepear. The company claims that the cartoon fruit logo of the Prepear app is too similar to the Apple logo itself.

Sources cite that the concern was posed when parent firm Super Healthy Kids applied for the Prepear logo to obtain a trademark. Users can store and arrange recipes and create custom-made food plans with the Prepear app.

The logo has a pear design and a leaf at the top-right. Although the forms are completely different and the goals are distinct, Apple continues to feel that customers will be misled and align Prepear with Apple.

Apple is trying to deny Prepears application for trademark registration. The tech giant has also been demanding extensions, ostensibly to get Prepear off or to clear the funds from the legal bills.

Apple has also targeted other companies having similar logos. It sent the patent office in Norway an objection letter in 2019, stating that the Fremskrittspartiet political party had an Apple logo that closely looked like its own. It also opposed the design of an apple-like cycling route in Germany.

Meanwhile, Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
