TikTok announces plans to hire 3,000 engineers to expand globally

Despite being under attack from the Trump Administration’s US ban, it seems that TikTok has not given up on its global expansion plan. As per the latest news, the Chinese video-sharing social networking giant is planning to recruit about 3,000 engineers over the next three years across Canada, Europe, Singapore, and the U.S.

Credible sources earlier reported that ByteDance is planning to invest billions of dollars and hire hundreds of staff members in Singapore, which it has finalized as its Southeast Asia headquarters. The U. S will remain one of the engineering hubs for the firm and recruit more staff. There are around 1,000 engineers presently working for TikTok outside of China and around half of them based in Mountain View, California.

President Donald Trump said the previous month that a preliminary agreement for Walmart Inc. and Oracle Corporation to take stakes in the company had his ‘blessing’, but a formal agreement has not materialized after its Chinese parent said it would not give up a majority stake in the app.

Previously, President Trump has ordered to block downloads of the app in the nation citing concerns over the safety of the private data it handles. A US judge panel has set a post-election date (4th Nov.) for a TikTok case preliminary hearing.

In a court filing, the Trump administration recently has insisted on the need to ban a short-video sharing app due to national security and safety concerns. The filing comes as a judging panel considers the legality of Trump’s administration's move to ban the Chinese-owned in the United States, where it has over 100 million users.

The U.S government is looking to persuade the judging panel in the case to allow it to move forward with restrictions on the TikTok, which it claims has links to the government of China through ByteDance.
