Tyson Foods Inc is reportedly introducing new plant-based hamburgers and sausages, adding to the competition for Beyond Meat, which is launching an improved version of its faux burger.

Plant-based meat producers expect an increase in revenue as COVID-19 vaccines encourage more people to eat out and get together for backyard cookouts and other events, sources cited.

Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat strive to fulfill market demand for more environmentally sustainable diets however, sales of some of their products have recently decelerated with fading plant-based trends.

Tyson Foods launched its first plant-based products in 2019 and is now adding ground meat comprising pea protein, Italian sausages, bratwurst, and burger patties to its offerings. The burgers will be available in two quarter-pound patties at a selling price of around USD 4.99 under Raised & Rooted brand of Tyson, sources confirmed.

After the failure of its hybrid beef and pea protein burger that proved to be a tough sell, Tyson eventually discontinued it and now is back with more offerings.

On the other hand, Beyond Meat said on April 27 that a new version of its plant-based Beyond Burger would be available in grocery stores countrywide.

According to the company, the proposed retail price of the wraps with two quarter-pound patties is USD 5.99, whereas new packs of four are to be priced at USD 9.99. A one-pound pack of Beyond Beef will also be available for purchase, and the firm already offers plant-based Italian sausage and bratwurst.

As per the brand, the new burger is better as compared to the previous one and has a taste like ground beef. When compared, Tyson's burger has 21 grams of protein per serving, while each Beyond Burger patty has 20 grams.
