Britain is reportedly set to open seven mass vaccination centers for accelerating COVID-19 vaccine rollout as the government intends to inoculate all vulnerable people by mid-February.

The immunization drive comes as the U.K. witnesses a steep incline in the number of infected patients being hospitalized, with experts stating that the situation is graver in comparison to when the country first entered lockdown in spring last year.

Matt Hancock, Health Secretary, reportedly stated that the country was the first to accept vaccines developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioTech and is currently immunizing nearly 200,000 people daily.

The country has a target of vaccinating 2 million individuals per week, including those over the age of 70, in care homes, clinically vulnerable with existing conditions, along with health and social care workers by 15th February.

Hancock further added that the vaccine rollout plan will play a major role in U.K.’s exit from the pandemic, but they must continue to follow precautions and rules, nonetheless.

Britain continues to fight increasing infections and is placing its hopes on rapid immunization efforts to help life to return to normal by spring. Notably, this vaccination program is the biggest of its kind in the history of Britain.

For the record, Britain officially accounts for the fifth-highest death toll globally, with over 81,000 deaths recorded in 28 days of receiving positive COVID-19 test, and more than 3 million positive cases, claim credible sources.

As per the government, the mass vaccination centers include a tennis club in Manchester in the north, Epsom racecourse in the southeast, a soccer stadium in Bristol in the west, and London’s Nightingale field hospital.

The government said that hundreds of new doctors' surgical sites and hospitals and some pharmacies will also begin administering shots this week, increasing the total number of sites to 1,200, sources confirmed.
