The UK government has announced that it will lift all remaining COVID-19 pandemic-related international travel curbs starting this Friday, including the requirement for visitors to fill out a passenger locator form before entering the country.
Arrivals into the UK won’t have to take a COVID-19 test (PCR), even if the travellers are unvaccinated. The change would eliminate the remaining requirements for unvaccinated travellers to take a test before departure and another one-two day post-arrival.
UK Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps mentioned in a statement that the United Kingdom is lifting all COVID-19 travel restrictions, and this news is proof of the hard work everyone in the country has put in to roll out the vaccines as well as to protect each other.
Shapps also added that the government has delivered on its promise of not keeping travel restrictions in place for longer than necessary and has now provided greater freedom for travellers ahead of the Easter holidays.
The Easter holiday in April is a popular holiday period in the United Kingdom, and the changes have been timed to assist families in making travel plans without the need for additional requirements.
The UK government stated that it will keep some contingency measures on hand to take quick actions to prevent future harmful variants of COVID-19 from entering the country.
According to officials, in the future, the default approach is to involve the least strict measures to reduce the impact on travel as much as possible, with contingency measures implemented only in extreme circumstances. The time has come to return to the skies to enjoy everything that makes aviation and international travel so enjoyable for families and businesses.
All remaining mandatory hotel quarantine capacity is likely to be completely lifted by the end of March.
