The Texas Medical Center (TMC), which is home to the US’ leading cancer hospital and a total of 61 world leading innovators, will now offer a unique package to UK companies that will help boost innovations in life sciences and drive exports. Supposedly, the partnership will enable research collaboration on various medical issues, including the development and advancement of cancer treatments and genomics.

British life sciences firms will allegedly have the chance to shift to the TMC in Houston, gaining access to its medical experts, advisors and investors. This partnership is a significant forward leap for the TMC’s research program as it looks to utilize UK’s world-renowned research and development capabilities, sources familiar with the matter mentioned.

Baroness Fairhead, UK’s Minister of State for the Department for International Trade, stated in an event that the UK is a world leader in healthcare innovation, and this collaboration is a confirmation of the opportunities in markets like the U.S. that exist for British companies. He added that their recent Export Strategy will assist other British life sciences companies to reach new markets and boost the availability of innovative healthcare services globally.

William McKeon, President & CEO of TMC said in a statement that this unique partnership is an evidence of the Texas Medical Center’s and the United Kingdom’s joint commitment towards promoting the exchange of ideas, innovation, and people in the life sciences. He believes this new relationship will assist in forming a strategic alliance between TMC and a country that has been leading medical innovation for centuries.

The current chief executive of UK Research and Innovation and a former government chief scientist, Sir Mark Walport commented on the partnership saying it will prove to be a valuable asset for UK and US healthcare professionals who are putting in great efforts in the development of medical treatments for people around the world.

Apparently, healthcare trusts in Manchester, Cambridge and Leeds are in talks with institutions at TMC and will attempt to formalize valuable partnerships soon.
