UK’s Covid-19 testing capacity expands thanks to Eurofins Scientific

Global scientific testing group Eurofins Scientific, reportedly, has combined the resources of its UK laboratories across multiple fields to increase direct-to-consumer Covid-19 testing, significantly adding to UK’s current testing capacity.

Eurofins Forensics, Eurofins Food & Water Testing, and Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics will collectively aim to push 350,000 tests per week through the use of home test kits, confirmed sources.

The initiative will employ nearly 300 professionals working throughout day and night to process the samples at five laboratory sites which are among the country’s largest and busiest and scientific testing and clinical diagnostics centers.

Credible sources cited that the home test kits can be delivered to hotels, quarantine sites, and self-isolation locations. The results are then provided electronically within 12 to 24 hours and can be delivered together with a travel certificate, for those with international journey plans as well as for international travelers already in nations of the UK.

Sources knowledgeable with the matter stated that this UK testing program is incurring significant capital expenditure and R&D investments by parent organization Eurofins Scientific, enabling the company to facilitate 20 million Covid-19 tests each month globally.

It is to be noted that the PCR testing capabilities of the company reach far and wide, with over 10 million PCR tests performed to date in its own laboratories. In this context, the organization is utilizing NovaPrime, its in-house developed testing kit, which is also being supplied to other specialist PCR testing laboratories across the globe. The company is also providing PCR and NGS tests for the rapid identification of new coronavirus strains.

For the record, Eurofins, included in the UK Government’s list of Covid-19 testing service providers, is a global leader in bio-analysis with more than 50,000 staff across a broad network of over 800 in 50 countries.
