Amazon has recently stated that it will offer nearly 20,000 temporary or seasonal employment opportunities in its CS (customer service) organization. This will enable the company to offer a seamless shopping experience for users in India and across the globe.

These temporary job opportunities were offered to meet the rising demand and anticipated customer traffic in the next 6 months. These positions are reportedly open in Lucknow, Bhopal, Indore, Mangaluru, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata, Noida, Coimbatore, Pune, and Hyderabad.

Most of the positions are part of the company’s Virtual Customer Service programme, that offers flexible WFH (work-from-home) options. It will also help offer customer services via phone, social media, chat, and e-mail. The eligibility criteria include minimum educational qualification of 12th standard & proficiency in Kannada, Telegu, Tamil, Hindi, and English.

Amazon India has reportedly stated that some candidates are likely to be offered permanent positions based on their business needs and performance towards the end of 2020.

According to Akshay Prabhu, Director of Customer Service at Amazon, the company is currently evaluating the needs across customer service organization to efficiently respond to the rising demand from customers. The anticipated consumer traffic can be attributed to the upcoming holiday seasons in India and globally. These positions will also aid in delivering job security and employment during an unprecedented crisis.

In 2020, Amazon announced its plan to offer 1 million jobs in India by 2025 through the logistic network, infrastructure, and technological investment. These new jobs will be created across various industries such as manufacturing, logistics, retail, content creation, skill development, and information technology. These are in addition to the 700,000 jobs enabled by the company in the last 7 years in India.

Additionally, Amazon India had announced the addition of 50,000 seasonal candidates for its delivery network and warehousing to cater to the rising online demand for products following the ease of lockdown that was imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
