  • The Panorama devices will allow customers to inspect parts on manufacturing lines and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • AWS’s new hardware system will also help in analyzing traffic across various retail stores.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), a cloud services subsidiary of Amazon, has reportedly launched the AWS Panorama Appliance as well as AWS Panorama SDK. According to the reliable sources, the two devices will help in transforming on-premise cameras into computer vision-enabled surveillance systems by integrating machine learning (ML) technology.

The new Panorama Appliance will be able to run computer vision models on video feeds from network-enabled cameras. Meanwhile, Panorama SDK can be used by several manufacturers to develop Panorama-enabled devices, sources claimed.

AWS’s new hardware system will allow customers to not only inspect parts on manufacturing lines, but also ensure compliance with safety protocols. Sources confirmed that the new Panorama devices will also help in analyzing traffic across various retail stores.

For the record, Amazon had previously touted its plans to enter surveillance technologies. In fact, the company had reportedly introduced DeepLens in 2017, in a bid to help developers produce prototype ML models while allowing Amazon to expand its computer vision capabilities.

The company has gained significant experience as well as controversy with regards to development of ML technologies for video surveillance. It is also worth mentioning that Amazon’s Rekognition software had sparked protests as well as received pushback from consumers. Moreover, Amazon has also tried into integrate machine learning technology into its consumer-facing Ring camera systems.

Regardless of this, there has been a considerable demand among enterprises for ML-based video surveillance systems to maintain high quality, safety and security control, experts claimed.

In addition, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has also seemingly compelled various enterprises to adopt new building and occupancy protocols in an effort to adapt to the current situation as well as to avoid the severity of the next outbreak.
