BBC Studios, the British content firm, gas reportedly announced an India-exclusive TVOD or (transaction video-on-demand) content partnership deal with BookMyShow Stream, the OTT arm of Indian ticket booking services firm, BookMyShow.
According to reports, this new collaboration will see the introduction of a dedicated BBC First branded section on BookMyShow Stream through a widget. This will help the Mumbai-based firm improve its already appealing and bespoke portfolio with premium, powerful British drama from BBC Studios.
Stanley Fernandes, vice president of distribution, South Asia for BBC Studios, stated that the British televised content production firm is renowned for its high-quality content that is supported by effective storytelling and the capacity to engage a worldwide audience.
Fernandes further added that it is thrilling to kick off this partnership deal with BookMyShow Stream and expand its reach by diversifying to audience in the vibrant and dynamic streaming industry of India. BBC is continuously searching for creative ways to support the emerging consumption behavior of the audiences.
Users of BookMyShow, as well as BookMyShow Stream, can stream the following premium shows as part of the release: Ragdoll, Sherwood, as well as Unforgotten S1 on the devoted BBC First branded space.
During the upcoming two quarters, BookMyShow Stream will provide additional titles on its site, namely Traces Series 1-2, Smother Series 1-2, Happy Valley Series 1-2, The Chelsea Detective, as well as Unforgotten Series 1-4.
Ashish Saksena, chief operating officer, Cinemas, BookMyShow, stated that the TVOD market is growing as more and more consumers adopt the mindset of ‘Pay to watch what you want’, instead of having numerous subscriptions. Saksena added that It will be delightful to see this special partnership develops as BBC Studios recognizes the enormous opportunity this category offers.
Financial details of the proposed partnership deal have not been unveiled by either of the two parties involved.
