POSCO ENERGY has recently announced its collaboration with Gisco and Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials to jointly demonstrate nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction. This will be demonstrated by using plasma vaporizers, which will mark POSCO as the 1st domestic power generation company to apply plasma vaporizer to respond to the comprehensive countermeasures and environmental regulations imposed by the government.

Plasma vaporizers can rapidly vaporize nitrogen oxides, which are generated during the initial phase of starting the LNG combined cycle generator, by using plasma heat source of high performance to zero air emissions. This LNG Combined-Cycle Power Plant is one of the peak-load generators that identify insufficient power generation. This vaporizer is anticipated to ensure a revolutionary conversion of power plants to eco-friendly facilities as it enables a faster and effective treatment of NOx produced by the generator.

POSCO ENERGY had previously announced its focus on the technological cooperation for win-win growth, which is based on POSCO Group's management philosophy ‘Corporate Citizens Growing Together’. The company also has opened its LNG Combined-Cycle Power Plant to advance the empirical research.

As per the statement made by Ki-seop Jeong, President of POSCO ENERGY, the power companies across the globe are focusing on clean and sustainable ways of generating electricity to reduce the environmental impact.

The company is targeting to complete the installation of these plasma vaporizers in its environmental facilities by September and conduct demonstrations by October. Following this, it is planning to enter the full-scale technology introduction process. Air emitted from the Incheon LNG Combined Cycle Power Plant is currently used by the company, which is managed at a level of nearly 25% with 5ppm as compared to the standard management concentration, i.e. 21.3ppm.

Reportedly, after the successful completion of demonstrating the plasma vaporizer, the company is expected to become a representative model to manage air emission substances in the power plants as well as preoccupy the eco-friendly market.
