The new wind turbine’s nacelles are expected to be initially manufactured at SGRE’s factory in Germany’s Cuxhaven.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE), a renewable energy industry leader headquartered in Spain, has reportedly unveiled its latest SG 10.0-193 DD, the company’s first 10+ MW offshore wind turbine.

The newest turbine in Siemens offshore product portfolio is built on the proven direct-drive generator technology to yield maximum energy at all wind speeds, claim sources familiar with the knowledge of the matter. The turbine is said to offer high reliability and improved profitability, besides reducing risk for customers.

As per an official release by Siemens Gamesa, By extending the diameter of the rotor to 193 meters, the new wind turbine provides about 30 percent more AEP than SG 8.0-167 DD, its predecessor. The turbine’s 94-meter-long blades provide a swept area up to 29,300 sq. meters, with each blade almost as long as a soccer filed.

According to Andreas Nauen, the CEO of the Offshore Business Unit of SGRE, Siemens Gamesa has incorporated its experiences and knowledge into the offshore wind turbines for several decades. Andreas further added that leveraging proven components and concepts has helped the company to established strong value chain.

If industry experts are to be believed, the new turbine is likely to help SGRE to meet the needs of its customers and stakeholders with the new & emerging markets around the world generating heavy demand for reliable and clean power.

The new wind turbine’s nacelles are expected to be initially manufactured at SGRE’s factory in Germany’s Cuxhaven, which is the biggest facility for offshore turbine nacelles around the world. Sources claim that yearly energy production of one such wind turbine’s is sufficient for supplying around 10,000 households with electricity in Europe.

SGRE presently has the highest track record in the renewable energy sector, with over 12.5 GW installed capacity and more than 3,100 offshore wind turbines operating worldwide.
