  • On Tuesday, Twitter announced that its employees are now allowed to work from home for as long as they want.

  • The company says it will adopt a careful approach and start opening offices one by one, gradually from September.

Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter in a companywide email, announced that employees of the company are now allowed to work from home permanently or for as long as they wish.

According to reliable sources, a spokesperson from the company has been quoted to state that the company is now positioned to respond quickly and enable employees to work from home, considering Twitter’s emphasis on decentralization and also supporting a distributed workforce that is able to work from anywhere, as it has been happening since the last few months.

Twitter has encouraged its employees to work from home since the 2nd of March and made it mandatory for all employees to do so from the 11th of March. The company has suspended all of its business travel until September, with few exceptions, and said in a statement that employees who wish to work through the office will have to wait until September when the offices plan to reopen. The company also says that opening its offices will be a careful, intentional, and gradual process and will be done keeping all safety measures in mind.

Even after the offices reopen, it will be the employee's wish whether to come to the office or work from home. According to the official statement, the company is completely open to the scenario where, if employees are in a role that will easily enable them to work from home and they wish to continue the arrangement, they can do so.

Back in February 2019, Jack Dorsey reportedly embraced the idea of Work from Home for his employees and expressed his dissatisfaction that so many of the company’s employees are based out of San Francisco.

This move from Twitter comes after tech giants like Google and Facebook extended their work from home policies into the year 2021. Amazon also extended its Work from Home policy until at least October of this year amidst the COVID 19 pandemic.
